One might wonder what we were doing back here at The Hellenic Club in Canberra.
Canberra is not the most exciting place to visit, but what an awesome show Jimmy put
on there, the best in this recent lot. The Hellenic Club is a huge venue and it was
packed with a lot of excited people waiting to see him.
First though we had to get through two support acts, not just one but two. First was
Tonk - a local band. The lead singer was wearing leather pants, and should not have
been! They were followed by Night Train, who supported Jimmy here last year. Some
things don’t change and they were up to the same antics with the bass player filling
his mouth with water and spraying it all over the crowd - yuk!
Wheels In Motion was Jimmy’s first song tonight. From the word go you could tell
we were in for a big night. Jimmy was in a great mood, having fun on stage with lots
of interaction with the crowd. He even took a poster to sign from a guy who had been
waving it in his face all night. Jimmy went full on and he is certainly showing no
signs of slowing down. And aren’t we happy about that.
Mahalia was back tonight with EJ. With her return came the return of Gonna Take
Some Time with Jimmy. Ben Rodgers from her band took the bass from Dario. Not to
be left out Dario snuck around the back and joined EJ on backing vocals. What a great
backing vocalist he makes, complete with dance moves!!!! But when Mahalia
launched into Proud Mary (a request from her mother) Dario took over the guitar from
Nick, he was awesome. Excellent to see him showing us more of his talents. He was
having great fun playing the guitar, he had a big smile on his face and was getting
right into it... For this song Jimmy joined EJ on backing vocals - a bit of variety
tonight!! The band are playing so well together, there is a lot of interaction between
them all and they look like they are enjoying playing together. Having a rhythm guitar
and a lead guitar is working out really well and is sounding great.
It was a longer than normal gig tonight - the longer the better!! The set list very
similar to the previous ones. Flame Trees continued to be played acoustic with the
crowd singing along very loudly. Of course the Chisel songs remained favourites with
the punters. His new song Crawl Away And Die seems to be going down quite well at
all the gigs, so that’s a good thing. Seven Days and Sweet Little Rock N Roller were
the encore but not the end. Jimmy came back and delivered Goodbye. Pushing the
band harder and faster. Awesome! The whole night was unreal, so good. That was
one gig we were so glad we made the effort to go to.
