We were set for a big road trip, myself, Renee and Mikey. Hired a car and excitedly
we hit the road.
Ballarat was our first stop, The Regent Cinema our first venue. It was a big old place,
a cinema so it was a seated event, theatre seats with a couple of rows of plastic seats
in the front. These seats were on presale to members of Jimmy's website - a great idea.
As people arrived they were greeted by lots of merchandise placed at the entrance to
tempt them as they went through to their seats.
Mahalia was supposed to be support but unfortunately had to cancel. A local band
was called in the last minute to replace her. They were not very good and the crowd
grew restless. They just wanted Jimmy on and were happy once support left the stage,
and Jimmy appeared with his band to get the night rocking!
It was a different band again. Welcome back to Warren Trout on drums, great to have
him back, Wazza is an awesome drummer. Stuart Fraser from Noiseworks joined the
band on guitar with Mark Punch. Tony Featherstone was on keys and James Gillard
on bass. Elly May and Bonnie Anderson provided the backing vocals.
Lay Down Your Guns kicked things off. Already we were ready to get off our bums.
How the hell were we supposed to stay seated during this full on rock gig - I don't
know, but we had been warned beforehand that there was to be no standing. Certainly
no mosh pit happening here like at the Out In The Blue tour! A couple of people
attempted to get up but were quickly jumped on So seated we stayed until the encore
- at last we were able to get up - lucky it was a longish encore of about four songs.
Rain was included in the encore as it was in the Europe Tour, so glad we got it too - it
really goes off. It was quite a long set, which is always a good thing and pleases
