From Port Augusta we headed off on the five hour drive to Broken Hill. We had it all on the windy road - rain, hail and sunshine. Thankfully the latter held out and it was warm and sunny in Broken Hill, After Chisel last night we were ready for Jimmy and his band and we were ready for another outdoor gig.
When gates opened only a handful of people went down to the front, they spread out on the lawn in the sun. There were a few marquees around in which people were holding Christmas parties - great idea.
There was a local support band on first, not very exiting! Then for a bit it looked like we were at a The Wiggles with all the kids running to the front to see Shannon. Once again Shannon put on a great show. He was a little more relaxed than last night and a few jokes snuck in. He lost the sound in his microphone for a bit but Dario kept the band going and Shannon entertained us with a few dance moves. All was restored and the show went on. I would have thought once he’d finished the kids would have moved but no they were determined to stay for Jimmy and most succeeded. Some held their own pretty well as the crowd pushed forward when Jimmy came on. Dario was double dipping tonight, he also played with Jimmy as well as Shannon.. Wazza was with him in the engine room on drums - a great combination those two. Tony was on keys and on guitars was Stuart Frazer and Pete Satchell (Dallas Crane). Elly and Mahalia also made a return and joined Shauna in backing vocals. The set list was the same as the last gigs with a bit of everything thrown in - the old, the new and all the favourites in between. Mahalia sang Proud Mary with her usual power. I think Jimmy was still on a high from last night, just like we were. He gave it 110% and the crowd loved it. I had a young girl next to me, 12 maybe, who kept yelling out “I love you Jimmy” And she knew the words to all the songs - amazing!! Such is his appeal to all ages!! The guys were having fun up there. Pete was getting right into it and Stuart was too. Dario moved around the stage - over to Stuart, up to Pete to have a bit of a sing with him in his microphone. Wazza was grinning from ear to ear as he belted away. Tony was having a bit of a laugh with Dario and Wazza up the back. Great to see them enjoying themselves so much. Jimmy too as he paced the stage with lots of laughs and smiles, Joel from Airbourne came on to join in on Goodbye. He is one crazy guy and sped the song right up, cool! It was a great night, really enjoyed having Jimmy and Shannon on the same gig. The Red Hot Summer Tour is going to be huge!!
