The competition was on - tickets to see Jimmy at The Precinct Hotel for Triple M’s Hot Breakfast. I actually got through on the day it was announced but was on the train to work and lost service, damn it. But all was good and we got to go. We had been the previous night to Channel 10 to see Jimmy on the 7pm Project. That was a bit of fun and Jimmy did a great interview.
Next morning it was a very early start, had to be at The Precinct in Richmond at 5.45am. The line built quickly and we were ticked off the guest list and given name tags. Not quite what I expected when we were let in out of the cold. There was a stage set up with the broadcasting desk set up at the side. Everyone rushed for the stage, just like a normal gig. Breakfast was supplied and there was orange juice, coffee and plates of quiches and toast being brought around. David Pope took to the stage to prepare everyone and warm us up with some laughs. Didn’t take much, all were in fine form and voice for so early in the morning. All excited to be there. There were give aways, laughs, footy talk and lots of fun. Eddie Maguire, Luke Darcy and Micha Buchan arrived and we were live on air. There were special appearances from Molly Meldrum, Nathan Brown and Tom Harley. Jimmy arrived around 7am and joined Molly, Eddie, Luke and Micha for a chat before hitting the stage with Letter From A Dead Heart. There was one change in the band, with Lachy off touring with Powderfinger Scotty Aplin was on keys. And what a great job he did, look out Lachy!! They played six songs - Letter From A Dead Heart, No Second Prize, Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead, Flame Trees, God Or Money and Working Class Man. In between songs Jimmy and the band left the stage and went out the back to the green room whilst the panel did their stuff. Micha roamed the crowd with her mic, and Luke and Eddie took calls from the listeners ringing up to say how awesome Jimmy sounded. They should have been at The Precinct!! Awesome stuff, Jimmy rocked the place out. Hard to believe it was so early in the morning. After Working Class Man finished, Luke, Eddie and Micha jumped the stage to pose for photos with Jimmy, as you do! He headed off and the three of them hung around to chat and answer questions.
It was all go for the whole three hours or so, never a dull moment. A lot of fun and what a bonus to have breakfast with Jimmy to start the day. It was then straight from The Precinct to work. I was on a high all day; it had been a fantastic morning. Well done Triple M and Jimmy and co.
