The next day we flew back to Melbourne, and then headed up to Echuca. There was no accommodation in Deniliquin so Echuca it was, only an hour away.
After meeting up with the gang for breakfast at The Star Hotel we headed out to the Muster. We had been there once before when Jimmy played there solo, quite a few years back. We were packed in at the stage for five hours before he even came on, so we were prepared! There was no one at the stage when we arrived so we got our spots, lay the tarp and waited. The Grand Final replay was on the big screen so everyone had set up in front of that. (Shame about the result) Nick Barker and The Reptiles played early on in the XXXX pub. Went flying over there when we found out but were too late, damn it, would love to have seen them. What a shame we didn’t know beforehand.
Chisel had their merchandise for sale and it all sold quickly. Lots of t’s and singlets to be seen in the crowd.
As soon as the Grand Final was over the music started on the main stage, a bit of country. John Williamson and Kasey Chambers both had big followings here at the Muster and all country folk were singing along loudly. Not my scene though, I was hanging out for Chisel, as were most of the 20,000+ sell out crowd.
Then after some fireworks Chisel lit up the stage in red lights as they took to their spots. Standing On The Outside filled the chilly night air and the temperature around rose as the excited fans went off. With a couple of warm up gigs under their belt Chisel were on fire. All their family and friends all gathered inside the barrier after Jimmy sorted security out. Jane was there having loads of fun, Jackie too. The crowd were really well behaved and there was very little pushing and shoving, which was a surprise. Security did a fantastic job, the best I’ve seen. They had told us early to expect the rush when Chisel came on and as we were there early they would do their best to look after us. And they did, any sign of trouble and they were onto it. Not that there was much when Chisel were on. That made for a great night, just take it all in and enjoy the music. The set list was the same as Shelly’s as you would expect. But tonight we did not finish on Goodbye, but instead on Last Wave Of Summer. It was a great night with the crowd singing along loudly to their old favourites and enjoying the new ballad All For You. Hope this song ends up on a CD somewhere down the track.
But just like that it was over, three excellent gigs all done, Chisel concerts are few and far between but they are well worth the wait. Hopefully the long awaited new album and national tour are not too far off. In the meantime the guys have their solo gigs and stuff going on, especially Jimmy. Plenty to keep us out of trouble while we wait!!
