It was another beautiful, warm, sunny day in Perth. Waroona was our destination, about an hour and a half out of Perth, on the road to Bunbury.
A big crowd was expected at Drakesbrook Hotel, and that is exactly what they got.
No grass for us to sit on this time, it was all asphalt in front of the stage. Luckily that area was soon in the shade. Once again the crowd was slow coming forward, preferring to sit around and in the bar, even when the support act started. Only a couple of the fans I met last night were down the front.
The support act was quite good and rocked out. They had a guy on harmonica who was crazy! He was having a lot of fun up there and had us all laughing, including some of Jimmy’s band who were watching from side of stage. The crowd started to come forward to check it out. By the time they were finished we were packed in tight ready for Jimmy.
And on he strode and too control of the stage with his powerful voice. You would not have known he was unwell the way he belted out the tunes.
There was a heap of shoving and pushing when he first came on as the crowd surged forward. But it soon settled and we had room to move in the end. It was a little better than last night gig I think, no hissy fits today!! The band had done a sound check tonight so that had probably perfected things a bit better. They are a solid combination.
Tonight Mahalia sang Proud Mary and gave it her all as she always does. I really think she is singing better these days. Jimmy was awesome and had plenty of smiles and laughs for everyone as he worked the stage. The crowd just love him. The mixture of songs was great and the new order throws me a bit, so used to the old ways. But loving the change. Do or Die ended the night in a big way! It was all over way too quickly, I wasn’t ready for it to end. The venue cleared out very quickly and it was time to head home.
The WA gigs really did have a great vibe, a little more relaxed than over east. All good fun and I had had a great time. I was heading home the following night but not before a day at Scarborough Beach - awesome!!
